100mm concrete slab on compacted hardcore; 1:2:4 mix

How it works

The shed base is calculated as a 100mm thick concrete slab poured on a compacted hardcore base. The 1:2:4 concrete mix is used for material quantities. As an alternative for lightweight sheds, the number of 600×600mm paving slabs on a sand bed is also shown.

Formula

Area (m²) = Length × Width
Volume (m³) = Area × 0.10 (100mm slab)
Paving slabs = ceil(Area / 0.36)

Tips for accurate results

1Compact a 100mm layer of MOT Type 1 hardcore before pouring the concrete.
2Extend the base at least 50mm beyond the shed walls on all four sides.
3For heavy or large sheds, increase slab thickness to 150mm and add BRC mesh reinforcement.
4Paving slabs on sand are only suitable for small lightweight sheds — not for generator houses or workshops.
