Driveway Estimator

Calculate the concrete volume and materials needed for a residential or commercial driveway slab.

Driveway Area18.0 m²
Concrete Volume1.80 m³
Cement (50kg bags)12
Sand0.79 m³
Gravel1.58 m³

1:2:4 concrete mix; add 5–10% for waste and spillage

How it works

Driveway area is length multiplied by width. Concrete volume is area multiplied by slab thickness. The standard 1:2:4 mix for a residential driveway requires 6.4 bags of cement, 0.44 m³ of sand and 0.88 m³ of gravel per cubic metre of concrete.

Formula

Area (m²) = Length × Width
Volume (m³) = Area × (Thickness / 1000)
Materials from 1:2:4 mix ratios

Tips for accurate results

1For driveways carrying heavy vehicles (trucks, containers), increase thickness to 150mm and use a 1:1.5:3 mix.
2Reinforce with BRC A142 mesh (one layer mid-depth) for crack resistance.
3Cast expansion joints every 3–4m to control cracking from thermal expansion and contraction.
4Always lay a 50mm blinding layer (1:4:8 lean-mix concrete) over compacted hardcore before the main slab.
