Sand0.59 m³
Gravel / Granite chips1.19 m³

1:2:4 cement:sand:gravel mix (C20 concrete)

How it works

Volume is calculated as Length × Width × Depth. For a standard 1:2:4 mix — the most common structural concrete in Nigeria — each cubic metre of finished concrete requires 6.4 bags of 50kg cement, 0.44 m³ of sharp sand and 0.88 m³ of 3/4-inch granite chippings. The mix produces a C20 strength suitable for slabs, foundations and columns.

Formula

Volume (m³) = Length × Width × Depth
Cement bags = Volume × 6.4
Sand (m³) = Volume × 0.44
Gravel (m³) = Volume × 0.88

Tips for accurate results

1Always add 5–10% extra to your calculated volume for waste, spillage and formwork variation.
2For structural elements (columns, beams, suspended slabs), use a richer 1:1.5:3 mix — this increases cement requirement by about 20%.
3German floor slabs are typically 150mm thick; surface beds use a minimum of 100mm.
4One tipper load of granite chippings in Nigeria is approximately 3–4 tonnes (2.5–3.5 m³ loose).
