Dry sand density 1.6 t/m³; confirm exact tipper capacity with your supplier

How it works

Volume is area multiplied by depth. Dry medium sand has a density of approximately 1.6 tonnes per cubic metre. Nigerian tipper trucks commonly carry 5 tonnes (small pickup), 10 tonnes (medium tipper), or 20 tonnes (large articulated). Always confirm the actual load with your supplier as sizes vary widely.

Formula

Volume (m³) = Area × (Depth / 1000)
Weight (t) = Volume × 1.6
Tipper loads = Weight / tipper capacity

Tips for accurate results

1Sharp sand is used for concrete and screed; plastering sand (finer) is for render and block mortar.
2Order 5–10% more than calculated to allow for spillage and settlement compaction.
3Confirm the exact capacity of each tipper with your supplier — do not assume from the truck size.
4Keep sand covered and away from cement bags to prevent contamination.
