Wall Area14.4 m²
Blocks (inc. 5% waste)150
Mortar Bags (50kg)8

9-inch sandcrete block; 1:6 mortar mix; 5% waste included

How it works

Wall area is length multiplied by height. At 9.88 blocks per m², the total is rounded up and a 5% waste factor added for cutting and breakage. Mortar is estimated at approximately 0.5 bags of cement per m² of wall using a 1:6 cement-to-sand mortar mix.

Formula

Area (m²) = Length × Height
Blocks = ceil(Area × 9.88 × 1.05)
Mortar bags ≈ ceil(Area × 0.5)

Tips for accurate results

1Use clean mortar sand free from clay — contaminated sand produces weak bed joints.
2Lay the first course on a DPC (damp-proof course) membrane to prevent rising dampness.
3Blocks should be cured for 28 days by the manufacturer before laying — confirm with your supplier.
4Walls above 2m need reinforced concrete columns at maximum 3m intervals for structural stability.
