Pick the appliances you want to back up and how many hours, and get an instant inverter and battery size — with full cost. No solar panels required.
Enter how many hours you want each appliance to run during a power outage — not hours per day. This directly determines how much battery capacity you need.
Suggested voltage for your load: 12V
Assumes this backup scenario happens daily — useful for comparing against a generator used for the same purpose every day.

This calculator sizes a grid-charged inverter and battery system — no solar panels involved. Each appliance contributes its running watts (quantity × watts) to your connected load, and its backup hours determine how much energy your battery needs to store. For the inverter, we don't simply multiply every appliance by its starting-surge factor — fridges, ACs, freezers and pumps all have inductive motors that draw 2–3× their running watts for a moment at start-up, but they rarely all start at exactly the same instant. Instead, we size the inverter for your total running load plus the single largest individual surge, which reflects the realistic worst case. Battery capacity is calculated from your backup energy need and your battery type's usable depth-of-discharge — lithium batteries can be discharged much further than lead-acid before damage, so a lithium bank needs less rated capacity for the same usable energy. Since there are no solar panels, the battery is assumed to recharge fully from the grid before your next outage.
Use our full Solar Calculator to size panels alongside your inverter and battery, and stop relying on the grid to recharge.
